At Joya since 2016
Early Childhood Special Education Teacher since 1984
Colleen knew that she had an interest in working with young children with special needs when she was just thirteen. Babysitting for family friends and learning about their child’s diagnosis just made her more curious about child development and the young brain. As a high school student, she volunteered to play with medically fragile children at St. Anne’s Children’s Home and later went on to work there as a nurse’s aide while attending college.
Colleen felt fortunate when she was selected to complete her student teaching at Joya Child & Family Development, in 1991. When the youngest of her four sons suffered a stroke as an infant, she knew exactly where to go to get the services he needed. She served as a parent representative on Joya’s board of directors, from 2002 through 2004, and officially came to work at Joya as the program coordinator in June of 2016. In June of 2019, Colleen was promoted to executive director.
