Biography
Ashley was born in Key West Florida, grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and moved to Seattle in 1994. She graduated from University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in a clinic in Seattle as a therapy aide and was also a respite care provider for a little girl with autism. This is where she fell in love with that population as well as pediatrics in general.
Ashley moved to Spokane in 2000 and started a master’s program, graduating in 2002 with a Masters of Science in Communication Disorders. She did her graduate school internship at Joya Child & Family Development in 2002 and always had a desire to find her way back (these positions at Joya are hard to come by because no one ever leaves)! In 2018, Ashley came full circle and joined the team. She has two daughters and loves spending time with them. She loves to travel and her happy place is the beach.
Ashley enjoys reading, crafting, photography, cooking, entertaining, listening to her girls sing karaoke, summertime and her dog Addy. She has a photography business as a hobby job on the side. Ashley has spent many years photographing children on the autism spectrum and helped put together a traveling exhibit of those photographs interspersed with facts about autism to spread awareness to the community. Ashley absolutely loves being part of an early intervention team, helping children birth to 3. As a speech therapist, one of her greatest joys is helping a child learn to communicate and speak his/her first words. She also loves teaching parents that just because their child may not be speaking yet, it doesn’t mean they aren’t communicating.
